With the two freeride trails, „Himmelfahrt - Ascension Trail“ and „Höllenritt - Ride to Hell“ - two mountain bike routes with very different technical and conditional requirements - Mayrhofen in Zillertal has created a true downhill paradise. In addition to the many existing cross country routes, the Action Mount Penken offers mountain bike trails for absolutely every level of ability. The Mayrhofner Bergbahnen Lifts provide a convenient ascent with lifts and gondolas, which comfortably transport bikers and their bikes right up to over 2,000 metres above sea level.
Mountain bikers discovered the potential of the Penken long ago. Freeriders particularly like the narrow trails – so-called singletracks. The "Himmelfahrt - Ascension Trail" is of medium difficulty and offers in addition to a slightly easier route, plenty of varied options for experienced mountain bikers and action lovers.
The difficulty of the route can be varied with challenging obstacles and various North Shore elements. Freeriders can test their skills on jumps, banked curves and wave lines. Only natural materials such as wood, earth and stone were used for the construction of the North Shore obstacles. Of course, all obstacles can be easily avoided by taking the "chickenway" out.
At the end you can either carry on cycling through the Horberg Valley on existing bike trails back down to your original starting point at the Penken Lifts, or take the "Höllenritt - Ride to Hell" trail back down to the valley. This was specifically created for advanced downhill mountain bikers.
Speed junkies can rely on the assistance of the Mayrhofen-Bergbahnen Lift Co. to help the access the single trails on Mount Penken. The Penken Lifts alone can transport four bikes per gondola. The „Lift and Bike“ combination ticket makes it possible for you to indulge in countless descents - and adrenalin kicks - every day in Mayrhofen!
