"Verzwickt verzwacktes" Christmas Tales

Mayrhofen Folks Theatre presents "Verzwickt verzwacktes Christmas Tales" (in German)


"Verzwickt verzwacktes Christmas Tales" by Mayrhofen Folks Theatre Group is about the young Anna Hummel, who disappears to bed after an argument with her father on the second Sunday in Advent. As she wakes up, the world seems to be upside down. Parents are children and children are parents. E grades in maths - perfect! Never-ending sweeties.  Pure paradise. (Performd in German)

The time honoured "Stefanie" Boxing Day Ski Jumping will take place again in 2014 at the ski jump in Dorf Haus in Mayrhofen.

Mayrhofner Torchlit Ski Run

A torchlit ski run by the Mayrhofen ski schools will take place on 30th December 2014 at the base station of the Ahorn lifts.


A torch lit ski run by the ski instructors from Mayrhofen and Hippach ski schools will be taking place on 30th December 2014, at the base station of the Ahorn lifts. This year two PisteBully snow cats and a snow canon will be on display from 16.00 hrs onwards.

What is a PistenBully? How does it work? How heavy is it and how often is it in use? A Pistebully operator will be on hand to answer all these questions and more. A snow canon operator will also be around to explain the procedure of making artificial snow and how a snow canon works to those interested. Visitors of all ages can look forward to an exciting afternoon full of interesting information on prepping the slopes..

The great torchlit ski run with ca. 200 ski instructors will begin at 17.30 hrs. Visitors can look forward to a fantastic firework display at around 18.00 hrs.

Feed and refreshments are available! 

Annual Pre-New Year's Party

Silvesterzug - New Year's Train


The New Year's Train will be steaming down the valley from Jenback to Mayrhofen for the last time in the old year.


It is a time honoured tradition for the New Year's Train to steam down the valley from Jenbach to Mayrhofen on the last day of the year. It's "All aboard!" again on 31.12 at 09.50 hrs at Jenbach Station.

Horce Racing on Snow

The traditional New Year's Horse Race will be taking place again in 2015 in Mayrhofen in Zillertal.


On New Year's Day 2015, the now traditional horse races on snow will take place at the race track just below the IQ petrol station in Mayrhofen (north entrance).

  • Programme:
    12.30 hrs: Procession to the race course leaves from Gasthof Brücke
    13.00 hrs: Start of the horse races
    Admission: € 5,--

Around 80 horses will compete in the following races:

Seven trotting races and one mini trotting race for the young ones
Horse betting opportunity at the track!

Food and drink will be amply available. We kindly ask dog owners to keep their pooches on a leash. No liability is accepted for accidents of any kind!

SAAC Basic Camp

Certified mountain and ski guides at the SAAC Basic Avalanche Camp will be advising on alpine dangers, risk management, equipment and the correct behaviour  when going off piste.


The Camp begins on the first day with a three hour theory lesson in a relaxed presentation using power point and video. On the second day, small groups will head off back country, where theory will be put into practise, using risk assessment, proper rules of conduct and a practise emergency run for victim search and location. Of course, the fun factor won't be neglected, so look forward to plenty of powder runs. All skiers and boarders are welcome to take part, provided they are aged 14 or over.

Participation as well as the rental of avalanche rescue gear are free of charge!

SAACnd Step Camp

01.03.2015 - 06.03.2015

The  SAACnd Step Camp offers further information on avalanche for skiers and snowboarders who already have basic skills.


At the three to five day long camp, all tours will be prepared together, weather and avalanche situation analysed and the participants will learn to assume personal responsibility on the mountain.The state certified mountain and ski guides help in making decisions and pulling the emergency brake when necessary. The daily free ride tours will surely make this an unforgettable experience, which can be later discussed back at the mountain lodge in the evenings.
