Hall in Tirol
Hall Old Town - with a variety of attractions and historical buildings.
Hall is a 700 year old town located around 10km east of Innsbruck and was much larger and more significant than the present provincial capital of Innsbruck during the Middle Ages. Rich in salt deposits, the town flourished in the 13th Century.
The importance of the city continued to grow in the 15th Century, when the ducal Merano Mint (South Tyrol) was moved here. The first silver coins (Thaler) were minted in Hall, these Thalers are actually the dollar's namesake.
The days of silver coining and salt mines are over. What remainss is an incredibly beautiful, well-preserved town centre with numerous attractions.
