The Five Most Popular Christmas Carols

For children, advent seems to last forever. Their excitment for Christmas means that the wait is pure torture. Even if their thoughts are perhaps not focussed on the true meaning of Christmas but rather the thought of piles of presents beneath the Christmas tree, having a method of counting down the weeks and days can help to shorten the wait.

One song per week

Celebrating advent as a family is a great way of getting in the festive spirit. Even if it’s just one hour a week when the family sit down at the table together to light the advent candle and sing a Christmas carol. Of course, if someone absolutely hates singing, they shouldn’t be forced to. We have provided links for some of the most popular Christmas carols, so that you can also listen to them on YouTube.

1. Advent-Sunday, 2nd December 2019

1. Dashing through the snow. On a one-horse open sleigh,

Over the fields we go, laughing all the way;

Bells on bob-tail ring, making spirits bright,

What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight.

Chorus:

Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way!

O what fun it is to ride, In a one-horse open sleigh.

2. A day or two ago, I thought I'd take a ride,

And soon Miss Fanny Bright was seated by my side;

The horse was lean and lank; Misfortune seemed his lot;

He got into a drifted bank, and we, we got upsot.

Chorus:

Jingle Bells

3. A day or two ago, The story I must tell

I went out on the snow. And on my back I fell;

A gent was riding by in a one-horse open sleigh,

He laughed as there I sprawling lie, but quickly drove away.

Chorus:

1. Come, they told me, Pa ra pa pa pum

A new born King to see, Pa ra pa pa pum

Our finest gifts we bring, Pa ra pa pa pum

To lay before the King, Pa ra pa pa pum,

Ra pa pa pum, Ra pa pa pum

So to honour Him, Pa ra pa pa pum

When we come.

2. Little baby, Pa ra pa pa pum

I am a poor boy too, Pa ra pa pa pum

I have no gift to bring, Pa ra pa pa pum

That's fit to give our King, Pa ra pa pa pum,

Ra pa pa pum, Ra pa pa pum

Shall I play for you, Pa ra pa pa pum

On my drum.

3. Mary nodded,Pa ra pa pa pum

The ox and lamb kept time, Pa ra pa pa pum

I played my drum for Him, Pa ra pa pa pum

I played my best for Him, Pa ra pa pa pum,

Ra pa pa pum, Ra pa pa pum

Then He smiled at me, Pa ra pa pa pum

Me and my drum.

We Wish You A Merry Christmas, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, We Wish You A Merry Christmas

and a Happy New Year.

Good tidings we bring to you and your kin; We Wish You A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We all want some figgy pudding, We all want some figgy pudding, We all want some figgy pudding,

so bring some right here.

We won't go until we get some, We won't go until we get some, We won't go until we get some,

so bring some right here.

Good tidings we bring to you and your kin; We Wish You A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We Wish You A Merry Christmas, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, We Wish You A Merry Christmas

and a Happy New Year.

4th Advent-Sunday, 22nd December 2019

O holy night the stars are brightly shining. It is the night of our dear Savior's birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices for yonder breaks a new glorious morn

Fall on your knees. O hear the angels' voices O night divine, O night when Christ was born

O night divine o night. O night divine.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices for yonder breaks a new glorious morn

Fall on your knees o hear the angels' voices, o night divine.

O night when Christ was born, o night divine o night. O night divine, oh yes it was

Ooh it is the night of our dear Savior's birth. Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah

It was a holy holy holy, oh oh oh.

5. Christmas Eve, 24th December 2019

1. Silent night, holy night!

All is calm, all is bright.

Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.

Holy infant so tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace,

Sleep in heavenly peace

2. Silent night, holy night!

Son of God love's pure light.

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

3. Silent night, holy night!

Shepherds quake at the sight.

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,

Christ the Savior is born!

Christ the Savior is born
