The best insider tip in the Zemm Valley – the Waxeggalm

A hidden treasure in the mountains of the Ziller Valley, a special spot in which to renew your strength, recharge your batteries and find inner happiness. The landlords, Ottilie and Alfred Mühlbauer, do their very best to ensure all of their customers are well looked after. A visit here is well worth it and should definitely be included in your holiday.

Isolated yet accessible

The hike up through the Zemm Valley is gentle and leads along a wide forest track. Right after the gorge section, the first signs point in the direction of the Waxeggalm. At this point, turn right and keep walking towards the delicious home cooking of landlady Ottilie. Pass through herds of cows and head straight on until you reach the romantic Waxeggalm.

Friendliness first

Every guest here is greeted with a friendly smile. Landlord Alfred doesn’t hang around and immediately serves the first schnapps. After the hike up, I am really looking forward to the a beer served by Alfred from the "Waxeggalm refrigerator". I have also worked up a real hunger and so can’t resist trying a slice of home-baked cake. Every day the hut offers a different cake such as fruit streusel cake, cherry cake, blueberry cake or cherry chocolate cake and each is absolutely delicious.

A song for the Waxeggalm

A former Ziller Valley band, the "Zillertaler Local Sound" honoured the Waxeggalm by writing a blues song about it.  If the landlord is in high spirits and plays the Waxeggalm Blues, it’s bound to create a great atmosphere at the alm.

Hut with a heart as of summer 2019

Since summer 2019 the Waxeggalm has been classified as a "hut with a heart" and so belongs to an elite club of the best huts in the region. It boasts especially warm hospitality, the best cakes and mountain food as well as friendly and welcoming hosts – and I can testify to that!
