Der Überflieger aus dem Zillertal
The High Flyer from Zillertal
Philipp was born in 1995 in Ramsau in Zillertal, where he enjoyed a sheltered upbringing. He inherited his sporting talent from his father, Hansjörg Aschenwald, bronze medal winner of the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, where he also competed in the Nordic Combined relay competition.
Philipp learned the art of ski jumping from his father at a young age and joined Skiclub Mayrhofen, before rising through the ranks to become a member of the ÖSV national squad in 2011. Philipp finished 19th in the individual discipline of the Nordic Junior Ski World Championships in 2013. ÖSV-Eagles head trainer, Heinz Kuttin, nominated him to represent Austria at the Four Hills Tournament in 2015/16.
