DescriptionHiking and running event in the mountaineering village Ginzling
No summer in the mountaineering village of Ginzling is complete without the Zillertal Steinbock March. On Saturday, 17.08.2019, and for the 51st year in succession, hikers and climbers will embark on this 30 km long trek from Ginzling to Breitlahner Alpine Guest House, in a battle to win this sporting event, as well as to triumph over themselves.
For the second time since the reintroduction of the Zillertaler Steinbock Run, trail runners will join participants along the course. They run through the Floitental Valley in no time at all, jump over the Mörcherscharte Ridge to Lake Schwarzsee, past the Berliner Hut and on through Zemmgrund.
An ascent of 1.817 metres and descent of 1.613 metres at incline gradients of 25 - 30° must be mastered before the worthy winner can hoist the coveted Zillertaler Steinbock trophy aloft.
An extensive entertainment programme is also offered in the mountaineering village Ginzling, so that families, children and pleasure hikers can also enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Zillertal Alps. Adventurous entertainment and handicraft sessions, the Austrian Alpine Club climbing tower, live radio broadcasts, DJs and live music keep visitors entertained before the evening award ceremony, which includes a concert by Ginzling Town Band, followed by the Steinbock March festival.
