Sustainable, inexpensive, comfortable: just a few advantages of the new direct bus service – a joint project between bus operator, Christophorus Reisen, Verbund (Hydro Electric Power Co.) and Mayrhofen-Hippach Tourist Board. The main objective of this new bus service is to alleviate excursion traffic to Schlegeis Reservoir and create an attractive alternative to using your own car.
Schlegeis Reservoir is an incredibly popular day trip destination in the Mayrhofen-Hippach holiday region, attracting visitors from far and wide. The reservoir is also a popular hub for outdoor activities, such as the Flying Fox (zip wire), via ferrata climbing route on the dam wall, or the Berlin High Trail. Its popularity has led to traffic jams, long waits and parking problems in recent years, which the new bus service will help to alleviate.
Journey times, stops, duration
The direct bus service will operate twice daily between Ramsau/Mayrhofen and Schlegeis Reservoir from July to mid-September, with no unnecessary stop along the way. There are two main bus stops, one in Ramsau and the other in Mayrhofen, both of which are easily accessible on foot. The journey for the 25 km long winding alpine road takes around 40 minutes from Mayrhofen.
Online ticket as standard booking method
Being able to purchase the ticket online from the valley-wide adventure platform, myZillertal.app, is another new feature. Visitors enjoy several benefits from online ticket purchases, as the ticket is EUR 1 cheaper than buying it directly on the bus. Moreover, online ticketholders have a guaranteed seat. Availability of tickets purchased directly on the bus cannot be guaranteed, especially as no standing room is offered. It is therefore advisable to buy the ticket online in advance.
Andreas Lackner, Managing Director of Mayrhofen-Hippach Tourism Association, is delighted with this new development: "The direct bus service is a first step towards relieving traffic to Schlegeis. With this in mind, we have deliberately kept fares simple and inexpensive. The guaranteed seat when purchasing an online ticket offers passengers an additional advantage and helps the bus company to plan operations. All in all, a well-conceived project that also supports a more climate-friendly approach to our natural environment. "
