On the trail of the Zillertaler Granat

Description

To the garnet mill in Zemmgrund

From the 18th to the 20th century, dark red garnet was mined as a gemstone in the Zemmgrund and processed for sale on the European gemstone market. In recent years, archaeologists have discovered and explored many ruins and remains from this period. The hike leads along the Berliner Hütte glacier trail (no contact with ice) to the Granatmühle mill above the Alpenrosenhütte. In addition to exciting stories about the life of the garnet workers, the role and significance of the two glaciers of the Waxegg and Hornkees and the mining area on the Rossrugg, visitors to the Zemmgrund can expect a magnificent mountain panorama! After a leisurely stop at the Berliner Hütte or Alpenrosenhütte, we hike back to the Alpengasthof Breitlahner.
