The Ahornhütte is located in the heart of the Alps at 1965m, nestled in the beautiful Ahorn skiing and hiking area in Mayrhofen in the Zillertal. Enjoy the peace and quiet in this unique retreat with a breathtaking panorama of the Zillertal's main alpine ridge. Whilst relaxing on the terrace, the mountains seem close enough to touch.
Ski pioneers and ski racers Riki and Ernst Spieß ventured from Innsbruck to Mayrhofen in 1954, where they founded the 1st ski school in Mayrhofen. In 1968, the construction of the Ahorn cable car created an ideal beginners' area. The relocation of Riki's ski kindergarten to the Ahorn and the construction of the Ahorn downhill run further increased the Ahorn's attractiveness and the number of guests increased rapidly. In order to strengthen the ski school on the Ahorn, Riki and Ernst built the Ahornhütte in autumn 1971 with a colourful team of builders and ski instructors in just 3 months. When the ski school and Ahornhütte were taken over by former ski racer Uli Spieß and his wife Renate in 1987, the opening of a kiosk in the Ahornhütte marked the entry into the hospitatliy sector. After an extension and the construction of the terrace, the Ahornhütte has been open all year round as a mountain restaurant since the winter of 1988/89. The cosy Ahornhütte with its sun terrace and breathtaking panorama over the Zillertal main Alpine ridge quickly became a popular place to visit. Many guests came to marvel at the numerous trophies of World Cup winner Uli Spieß and to take home an autograph as a souvenir
