Schneekarhütte 2223m - Penken/Horberg

In the winter of 1987, Rist Christian and Bair Sepp ran a small kiosk at the mountain station of the former Schafkopf lift. In summer 1988, the modest sized Schneekarhütte was built and all the building materials for this construction were delivered by the double chairlift. A further extension in 1989 was followed by a "snowless winter".

After a further remodelling in 2000, it was possible to offer simple accommodation for staff and guests. In 2004, a modest and bumpy access road was finally built. In 2008, new staff rooms, guest toilet facilities, storage rooms and the conservatory were built.

The last major remodelling took place in summer 2012, when a major "quality offensive" was launched. A partially new kitchen, beautiful and spacious guest rooms, a panoramic sauna, additional staff rooms and a bistro area were built.

In 2022, the Schneekarhütte opened its doors in summer for the first time to offer a special destination for hikers, e-bikers or "organic cyclists". But above all to offer unique overnight stays at over 2250 metres not only in winter but also in the warm summer months.
