Flying in Zillertal

Savour the Mayrhofen-Hippach holiday region from an entirely different vantage point - be it as a solo pilot or tandem passenger with an experienced pilot.  It is possible to fly all year round in Zillertal. Almost all lifts are open in both summer and winter. They close briefly in spring and autumn  for essential maintenance and revision work. Many launch sites can of course be accessed using public transport or or by shared taxis.

Would you like to learn the fascinating sport of paragliding? Basic courses & intensive training units are offered from January to November, while paragliding introductory courses are available from March to November.

From the beginning of March till November, Flugschule Zillertal offers you the possibility to learn the art of hang gliding in a range of courses.  Options range from taster sessions to intensive training courses.

  • When can you fly in the Zillertal Valley? Paragliding and hang gliding are possible in Mayrhofen all year round. The best conditions are typically found during stable high-pressure periods in summer and on clear winter days.

  • Who can take part in a paragliding tandem flight? Anyone aged 4 or over can take part. No prior experience is required. As a guideline, body weight should be between 20 kg and 120 kg (please check with the provider for details).

  • Where are the launch sites? A variety of launch sites can be found in Zillertal, most notably on Mount Penken (accessible by cable car) and along the Zillertal High Alpine Road.

  • Are there disabled-friendly flight options? Yes, wheelchair-assisted paragliding is available in Mayrhofen. Specially trained pilots from local flight schools make this experience possible for people with limited mobility.

  • Where can you learn hang-gliding? Flugschule Zillertal offers professional courses from March to November – from introductory sessions to full pilot training.
