Description
Discover the magnificent habitat of woodpeckers, capercaillies, and other birds
An easy trail winds its way through a pristine mountain forest up to the Gamshütte, which lies below the majestic Grinberg peaks. Nearly the entire ascent from the Innerberg bus stop to Brunnhaus runs through the forested Gamsberg and thus in the shade of the trees. For the final 300 meters of elevation gain, the trail takes us through the Ebenschlag Natural Forest Reserve. Here, the forest has been left to its own devices for about 30 years—humans are now merely guests, coming to observe and study nature. This rustic fairy-tale forest is once again home to many rare and protected plants and animals, such as the three-toed woodpecker and the capercaillie. After a leisurely stop at the Gamshütte, we hike back to Finkenberg.
