To the high mountain chapel in Zillergrund

Into the realm of ibexes and 3,000-meter peaks

Our tour starts in Bärenbad and leads us directly to the "King of the Mountains". In the Steinbock.Welten exhibition we learn more about the exciting history of ibexes. We will also be able to observe real ibexes in the enclosure. In the Zillertal Alps' wilderness there is currently a population of about 110 animals. Then we hike past the Zillergründl reservoir to the picturesquely situated high mountain chapel (2,275 m), which is dedicated to St. Valentine. As a reward for the steep ascent a magnificent view of the wild, glaciated mountains of the Reichenspitz group awaits us. After a stop and refreshment at the Adlerblick inn, we return to Mayrhofen from the Zillergründl reservoir by public bus.

Character: difficult hike with approx. 800 hm ascent (350 hm descent).

Duration: approx. 5,5 hrs.; of which 4,5 hrs. are pure walking time
